How We Solved An Ongoing Problem of Rack Bags Causing Heavy Truck Headliner Parts to Deform

As an example of a complicated bag that a customer brought to us looking for a solution was the headliner bag. As it was being used as it was constructed, it would deform as it sat on the production line. And when it would deform, it would deform the headliners, and they became unusable. They would have to throw away a half dozen of these Headliners at a time.

We took the bag, removed a lot of plastic from the bag, and redesigned how the part was going to be held. We had custom steel fabricated, which I believe was the first time that there was custom steel installed inside a bag. At the end of the day, this became a collapsible rack, which it was not. It became a lighter rack. It didn't matter whether the operator took the top part or the bottom part; the bag didn't deform.

All of this resulted in a cheaper product that lasted longer, worked better, and it was still cheaper. That you need to solve something quickly or you're planning for 18 months down the road, it's only take 10 minutes on the phone, and we can keep your project moving.

From Impossibility to Reality Hold-True's Breakthrough for Transporting Heavy Truck Parts

The key with this project is everyone in the engineering department said that this couldn't be done. And the one engineer that had experience with us said, "You haven't seen what they can do." We were challenged to design a bag that would hold the front grill and the surrounding crown around it, and those parts can be heavy. They've got chrome, so they're delicate. The grill, I can tell you, is aggressive. The edges are aggressive; there are sharp points on them.

This bag wasn't just going from one vendor to the assembly plant. This went to three different vendors. Each component was put in at each vendor's. You know, they would put it in, they take it out, add their part, put it back in. Then they go to the next one, put it in, take it out. A crown rack is very difficult to transport in a bag. It's something that's commonly either in expendable packaging or in a steel rack with a lot of protection.

When we designed the bag, it was expected that it wouldn't work. It was put to us as sort of a challenge. They kind of threw it out as an impossible thing, not really going to happen. We made it a reality, and they use it today and love it. We got the density that they desired, the protection they desired, and aside from that, now that it's in a steel rack versus expendable packaging, they get four times in a truckload than what they could in expendable packaging because they can stack them, and they couldn't stack them before.

Whether you're dealing with an urgent problem, frustrations today that you need to solve something quickly, or you're planning for 18 months down the road, today is the day to call. It's never too soon to start. It only takes 10 minutes on the phone, and we can keep your project moving.
